How do I categorize my bank transactions

You categorize a bank line by clicking its row: there's no separate edit button.

How to categorize. On Ledger › Banking › Transactions, your lines are grouped by account.

  1. Click a transaction row to open it for editing.
  2. Pick a category from the dropdown. It starts with nothing selected, then lists your own expense accounts first, followed by the groups that apply to your book (assets and capital, owner and shareholder, prepaid balances), with the built-in standard categories at the bottom.
  3. Click the check to Save.

What it does. Categorizing an unmatched line posts a journal entry behind the scenes: the expense against your bank or card account. Change the category later and TALISK_HQ re-posts it for you.

Some lines need no category. A line already matched to a bill, an ecommerce payout, or an invoice payment is already booked by that match: it shows a small italic label like Bill payment instead. Categorizing it again would double-count the cash. And paying off a credit card isn't a category at all, it's a transfer between your own accounts.
