What "Books current through" means

Open this in Talisk HQ

The top of the Ledger Dashboard says how far your bookkeeping is caught up, for example Books current through 28 Sep 2026. The date moves forward as you work, and it only moves when the books can back it up.

Three things hold the date back:

  1. Transactions that need a category. A bank or card line with no category is not in your income or expense totals yet. The date stops the day before the oldest one. This counts every uncategorized line, including small ones and ones from this week, so it can be more than the Books Health card shows.
  2. Bills and receipts waiting for review. A document in Pending or Low Confidence posts nothing until you approve or discard it. The date stops the day before the oldest one, by the date on the document.
  3. Accounts that are not reconciled. Each active bank or card account is only known up to its last completed reconciliation, for example RBC Visa reconciled through 31 Aug 2026. An account you have never reconciled holds the date to the day before its first transaction.

Each one appears as a chip beside the date. Click it to go where the fix lives: Ledger › Banking for the transactions, Ledger › Expenses for the bills and receipts, or a new reconciliation for that account.

When nothing is waiting, you see a green check and Your books are current through your latest bank or card transaction date. You cannot be current past the data you have, so importing your next statement moves it again.

Anything dated before your books' starting date (the conversion date) does not count: those amounts are already inside your opening balances. A receipt counts by the day it was paid.

On a phone, the same line sits under the summary on the Money screen. Tap it to go straight to the most urgent fix when the phone has a screen for it (categorizing, or bills waiting for you). Reconciling is done on a computer.

Nothing shows until a bank or card account has transactions in it.

Good to know: The date is read from your books; it never changes them. It only counts what is already in Talisk, so a bank statement you have not imported yet cannot hold it back, and it can never run past your latest bank or card transaction.
