Save a report view

Open this in Talisk HQ

Once you have the transaction report filtered the way you want it, you can keep that arrangement and come back to it.

  1. Set the period and the filters on Ledger › Reports › Custom › Transaction detail.
  2. Click Save this view, give it a name, and press Enter.
  3. It appears in the Saved views row above the report. Click it any time to put the report back exactly there.

What a view remembers

The period and every filter: the search text, accounts, types, supplier, customer, job, amount range and direction. It does not remember the numbers, so opening a view re-runs the report and what you see is your books as they stand now.

A view saved on a preset period, like This Month, means this month whenever you open it. That is usually what you want for something you check every month. Only a custom range or a named filing period keeps fixed dates.

Sharing one

The address bar always shows the whole report: the period, the filters, and which view is open. Copy it and send it to anyone who works on the book, and they will land on the same report.

Things worth knowing

  • Views are shared. Everyone who works on the book sees the same list, and anyone who can edit can rename or delete one. The list shows who saved each view. A view is a shared shortcut, not a private note.
  • Opening a view changes the period everywhere. The period is one setting for the whole ledger, so Bills, Banking and the other reports follow. If you have several tabs open, TALISK_HQ asks first and says how many will move.
  • Editing a control marks the view "Modified". Your changes are not saved over it. Save a new view if you want to keep them.
  • Two views can have the same name. The list shows who saved each one and when, so you can tell them apart.
  • A filter that no longer exists shows nothing. If a supplier is merged away or an account is deleted, the view that named it lists no transactions and tells you which filter is dead. It will never quietly widen and show you the whole book instead, and the CSV says the same thing in its header.
  • A link with every filter cleared reopens the view. If you open a view and then remove all of its filters, the address bar no longer carries any, so sending that link gives the recipient the view as it was saved. Save a second view if you want the cleared version.
Good to know: A saved view stores the period and the filters, nothing else. It is not a copy of the numbers: opening one re-runs the report against your books as they are now, so the figures move as you post. Views are shared with everyone who works on the book, and anyone who can edit can rename or delete one, so a view is not a private note. Renaming is shared too: the new name is what everyone sees. A view saved on a preset period like This Month means this month whenever you open it; only a custom range or a named filing period keeps fixed dates. Opening a view changes the period for the whole ledger, the same as choosing one from the period control. A view that names a supplier, customer, job or account which has since been deleted shows no transactions and says which filter is dead, rather than quietly showing you everything.
