See who a reply will actually go to

Open this in Talisk HQ

Some emails are sent on somebody else's behalf. The address at the top is a relay, and the real person is recorded separately inside the message. The clearest example is a Shopify contact form: when a customer writes to your store, the email arrives from Shopify's own sending address rather than the customer's, with a subject like New customer message on September 5, 2026 at 12:35 pm, and the customer's own address is nowhere on the header.

Replying to those has always reached the customer. The problem was that nothing on screen said so, and the address itself was not there to read or copy.

The header now names it. Under the To and Cc lines you will see Reply goes to, followed by the address, with a copy button beside it. So you can see who wrote to you, copy their address, and know where the Reply button will send before you press it.

When the line appears

Only when the address is not already somewhere on the header. On an ordinary email from a person, the sender is the reply target and it is spelled out one line above, so TALISK_HQ adds nothing. The line shows up when the reply address is genuinely hidden, which is mostly notifications sent through a relay: store contact forms, marketplace messages, appointment and booking systems, and mail from a service that answers at a different address than it sends from.

On your phone

The same two lines sit under the subject when you open an email in the TALISK_HQ app: From, and Reply goes to when the reply address is one the header was hiding.

Press and hold either address to get two options:

  • Copy address puts it on the clipboard, ready to paste into a message, a form, or your store's customer list.
  • New email to this address opens the composer with the To line already filled in. Nothing is sent until you write it and tap Send, as usual.

A normal tap does the same thing, so the options are still there if holding is awkward.

In a conversation with several people, open any message in the thread and its own sender's address appears above the message. TALISK_HQ leaves it out when the lines under the subject already show that address, so the same one is never printed twice.

If the line is not there

It means the reply address is already visible, or the email does not carry one. In that case Reply goes to the sender shown at the top, as it always has.

Sometimes the address it names is a no-reply mailbox. That is worth seeing too: it tells you a reply will not reach anybody, which is the sort of thing you would rather know before writing one.

Shopify order notifications are different

The email Shopify sends you when someone orders carries no customer address at all. TALISK_HQ looks the buyer up in your synced store instead, and labels that line Reply to customer. That one does need your store connected. See Reply to the customer from a Shopify order email.

Good to know: Talisk reads this from the email itself, so it works on any mailbox and needs no store connected. It can only show an address the sender put in the message. On a Shopify order notification there is no such address and Talisk finds the buyer a different way, which is covered in a separate article.
